Verb Theatre is seeking new volunteer members to join our Board of Directors, with a particular interest in filling the role of Treasurer.

About Verb Theatre

Based in Calgary, Verb Theatre is a registered charity and non-profit theatre company dedicated to creating innovative, conversation-sparking live performances that explore cutting-edge ideas.  

The Role and Time Commitment

Verb operates as a governance-only board. Day-to-day operations, production, and artistic programming are led by the Artistic Director. The board’s responsibility is high-level oversight, organizational health, and fiduciary stewardship.

This is an intentionally light-touch, low-effort commitment designed to fit into busy schedules:

Meetings: We meet only a few times per year (typically 3 to 5 short meetings, held virtually, plus an AGM).

Time Commitment: Less than 1 hour per month on average.

Scope: Reviewing high-level updates, approving annual budgets, and ensuring the society stays in good legal and financial standing.

Who We Are Looking For

We are looking for community-minded individuals, professionals, or retirees who want to give back to the Calgary arts community:

Treasurer: Someone comfortable reviewing basic financial reports, budgets, and year-end statements to help the board maintain good financial oversight. (You do not manage day-to-day bookkeeping or invoices; this is strictly high-level governance.)

General Directors: Individuals with an interest in local theatre and non-profit governance. All backgrounds are welcome—including administration, law, communications, community engagement, or general business experience. Prior board experience is not required.
